Reindeer, horror and the last preparations

Gooooeéeeeeedenavond allemaal!

Op het moment druk bezig om de laatste voorbereidingen te treffen voor mijn stage. Vreemd dat ik nu in het buitenland zit en dat mijn stageperiode eigenlijk voorbij is, maar alles gaat gewoon door. Het is niet erg, ik vind het allemaal leuk om te doen. Wat Steve Jobs ooit zei tijdens een presentatie: "The only way to do great work is to love what you do". Daar geef ik hem 100% gelijk in. Maar ondanks mijn drukke werkschema voel ik de verplichting om mijn blog bij te houden, kijkend naar de geweldige statistieken in de afgelopen weken van mijn blog! 

En zo gaan gaan we weer verder waar we vorige week gebleven waren, beginnend met de woensdag. De woensdag is altijd een van de langste dagen op school. De hele dag les, van 's morgens tot en met in de avond. Gelukkig had ik die dag wel geluk dat ik eindelijk mijn studentenkaart kon ophalen en kon gaan sporten. Uit de statistieken blijkt overigens dat 4% van de Finse bevolking niet sport, het is maar dat je het weet :)

Donderdag was niets anders dan een gewone schooldag, waarbij ik voor even naar school kon. In de avond ging ik de eerste keer gebruik maken van het sportaanbod. Ik ging samen met mijn kamergenootje en andere studenten naar de sporthal om te volleyen en futsal de spelen. Bij het volleyen was alles nog normaal, maar bij het futsal kwamen de echte Finse gasten. Allemaal het nieuwste model van Nike aan, prachtige schoenen met felgele/knalroze kleuren waren ze niet te stoppen... Al met al was het een leuke avond.

Vrijdag was een korte schooldag, waarbij we in de middag naar een grote sporthal zijn gegaan om te sporten. Verder zijn we in het begin van de avond voor de tweede keer naar Oulun Kärpät gegaan (ijshockey). Vol goede hoop gingen we de wedstrijd bezoeken. Eenmaal daar komende bleek de wedstrijd voor een uur verplaatst te zijn. Dat valt dan nog mee. Vervolgens speelde ze een dramatische wedstrijd en verloren ze met 2-4, terwijl ze bovenaan in de competitie staan. De cheerleaders waren voor mij in ieder geval hét amusement van de avond (een échte aanrader). Namen en foto's staan overigens op de website van de ijshockey club ;)

De zaterdag gingen we met zijn allen de stad in, waar we begonnen in de stadsmarkt. Daar zagen we veel vlees liggen en kregen het idee om met zijn allen samen te koken. Een van de favorieten in Finland is rendiervlees. We gingen naar de slager en we zagen bijna alleen maar rendiervlees (hangt overigens een behoorlijk prijskaartje aan). Vervolgens gingen we de hele stad af om ingrediënten bij elkaar te zoeken voor ons diner.Dan nog wat andere spullen bij elkaar rapen en koken maar!. Het was serieus een van de beste stukken vlees die ik ooit heb gehad. In combinatie met een rode wijnsaus, aardappelen, groenten en brood was het voortreffelijk, complimenten aan de kok (Ralf). Na heerlijk uitgebuikt te zijn, had iedereen het idee om een horrorfilm te kijken. Zeer spannend was het niet, maar we hebben ons die avond goed vermaakt.

De zondag was een lui dagje, waarbij er een filmpje werd gemaakt voor een van mijn collega studenten. Héél leuk, wordt vervolgd. In de avond hebben  we nog vergaderd over een aantal trips die we voor ons zelf gaan organiseren.

De maandag begon de schoolweek wederom met een lange dag school en een avondje werken aan school. Dinsdag was eveneens vroeg opstaan, waarbij er in de middag hard werd gewerkt aan schoolprojecten en ik inmiddels dit gedeelte van het blog aan het schrijven ben. 

De oogjes vallen langzaam dicht, mijn ogen worden vierkant van de laptop en de hongersnood breekt inmiddels aan. Tijd dus voor andere activiteiten. Vanavond staat er naar alle waarschijnlijkheid een leuke activiteit op het programma.

Voor de komende dagen wordt het nog spannend voor mij. Morgen (woensdag) kan ik me inschrijven voor een aantal trips (Rusland, Lapland) en donderdag is mijn beoordelingsgesprek voor mijn stage. Spannend dus!

Voor nu zeg ik gedag en wens jullie nog allemaal veel plezier toe komende week. Maak er iets moois van, want de tijd vliegt. Zelfs in Finland en hier is het een uur later dan in Nederland.

Gooooooooooooooodevening all!

At the moment, I am busy for the last preparations of my internship. Strange that I am now abroad and that my internship actually is finished, but everything just goes on. It's not really nice, but I like to do that all. What Steve Jobs once said during a presentation: "The only way to do great work is to love what you do". I agree with him for 100%. But despite my busy work schedule, I feel the obligation to keep my blog up-to-date, looking at the great statistics in recent weeks of my blog! 

And so, we are going to the day where we left last week, starting with Wednesday. The Wednesday, is always one of the longest days in school. All day lesson, from morning to evening. Luckily, I were lucky that I finally got my student card and then I could do some workout in the gym. In addition, statistics show that 4% of the Finnish population do not practice sport, it's just you know it :)

Thursday was nothing else as a normal school day, where I could go to school for a while. In the night, I made actually for the first time use of the sports program. I went together with my roommate and other students to the Sports Hall to play some futsal and volleyball games. Everything was really normal, but when the real Finnish guys came to play some futsal, it became funny. All wore all the latest model of Nike. Some beautiful football shoes, with bright pink and yellow colors. With those shoes, I wasn't able to stop those guys... However, it was fun that evening.

Friday was actually a short school day. In the afternoon I went to the gym, in a big sports hall nearby my school. We went also in the beginning of the evening, for the second time, to Oulun Kärpät (ice hockey). Hopefully, we entered the match. Once we were there, the match moved for one hour. I can deal with that.. Then they played a dramatic contest and they lost with 2-4, while they are leading the League. At least, the nice cheerleaders were some entertainment for me (I can really recommend you to visit a ice hockey match). Names and photos of the cheerleaders are on the website of the ice hockey club ;)

The Saturday, we went all downtown, where we started in the town market. There, we saw a lot of meat and got the idea to cook all together. One of the favorites in Finland is reindeer meat. We went to the butcher and we saw almost only reindeer meat (the reindeer meat is really expensive). Then we went off, to the entire city to find ingredients for our dinner. We picked it up and then bought some other stuff for cooking together. The reindeer meat was seriously one of the best pieces of meat I've ever had. In combination with a red wine sauce, potatoes, vegetables and bread was it exceptional. All my credits are going to the Cook (Ralf). After we ate a delicious dinner, everyone had the idea of watching a horror movie that evening. It was not very exciting, but were that evening/night well entertained.

The Sunday was a lazy day, where we made a movie for one of my fellow students. Very nice, this story will be continued. In the evening, we consult together, looking for some trips we are willing to organize for our selves.

The Monday began the school week again, with a long day of school and a night working on school. Tuesday was also hard to get up early, in the afternoon I worked on some school projects and now I'm writing this section of the blog.

My eyes are closing slowly right now, my eyes are four side of the laptop and I am really hungry now. Time for some other activities. Tonight, there is in all likelihood a funny activity on the program. To be continued next week...

For the coming couple of days, it is still exciting for me. Tomorrow (Wednesday), can I register myself for a couple of trips (Russia, Lapland) and Thursday is my assessment interview for my internship. So exciting!

For now, I say goodbye and wish you all a lot of fun coming week. Make something beautiful of it, because time flies when you're having fun. Even in Finland and it is here one hour later than in The Netherlands.
