Overall, museum and resistance.

This is again another week of my Erasmus adventure and I really like it over here! Carnaval in Limburg is almost finished, but the party here in Oulu goes on! I hope you"ll enjoy my story again. Take a coffee or beer or whatever you want and take a seat to read my story.

Nederlands

Zoals de oud Hawaiianen altijd zeiden: "Volg je hart, want dat klopt."

En daar mogen we weer, op naar een nieuw verhaal in het altijd zonnige Oulu. De zon schijnt ook altijd in Otokylä. Otokylä is de naam van het appartementencomplex waar bijna alle exchange studenten bij elkaar zitten. De zon schijnt daar altijd, omdat het vaak een groot feest is, veel gezelligheid en er veel drank in het spel is. Stef Stuntpiloot en bierpong zijn de grote activiteiten die bijna dagelijks op het programma staan. Exchange studenten zijn bijna gelijk aan de AA, alleen dan even net iets anders. Finse studenten denken dat exchange studenten helemaal gek zijn, maar eigenlijk valt het nog best mee. Korte nachten, (veel) school en een slechte weerstand horen daarbij...

Over naar mijn dagelijkse verhalen, want daar is uiteraard ook nog niet alles over gezegd. Vorige week had ik gezegd dat de dinsdagavond een apart verhaal was. Dat was het uiteraard ook. Die dag had ik namelijk een overal gekocht. In Finland is het de traditie in het studentenleven dat iedere student een overal heeft, zeker bij het uitgaan en studentenactiviteiten. In de avond begon het met een internationaal eetfestival, zie ook de foto's hiervoor. Hierbij was er een evenement georganiseerd, waarbij studenten hun land konden vertegenwoordigen door een typisch recept te maken uit hun eigen land. Bijna alle landen waren vertegenwoordigd: Duitsland, Spanje, Hongarije, Japan, Rusland, noem maar op. En daarbij kwamen de Nederlanders ook weer eens kijken. Er waren andere Nederlandse dames die typisch een stamppot hadden gemaakt met gehaktballen en appelmoes. Was overigens niet de favoriet bij de internationale studenten. Wij hadden met een aantal Nederlanders arretjescake en Brabantse worstenbroodjes gemaakt. De arretjescake 'verkocht' zich als warme broodjes. Er zat overigens heel goed voedsel tussen bij andere landen. Nadat alle buikjes rond waren, was het tijd om te feesten in onze overal. Vooral de kleur van de overal is aantrekkelijk en sexy ;)

Voor de andere dagen vergeet ik nogal wat persoonlijke dingen en specifieke dingen blijven mij niet meer bij, vandaar dat ik vanaf nu bijna iedere keer over zal gaan op wat algemenere dingen. De woensdag tot en met vrijdag waren gewone normale schooldagen, waarbij in de avonden lange nachten werden doorgebracht en het studentenleven tot het bruisen kwam. Zelfs in het weekend werd dit ritme doorgezet en op de zondag was het tijd voor leren en school, want de dag erna, de maandag, was het eerste examen van het jaar: Finnish Survival Course. Iedereen keek er erg naar op, maar iedereen kwam er vrijwel gemakkelijk vanaf. Het niveau hier is niet heel erg hoog op de scholen, maar het is genieten geblazen in Oulu. Ongelooflijk mooi. Hiervoor zou ik alle activiteiten in Nederland, zoals bijvoorbeeld carnaval, nu wel voor willen missen. Alle verhalen krijg ik deels via Whatsapp en Facebook mee, dus dat scheelt al een hele hoop. 

Voor de komende dagen wordt het ook genieten geblazen. Studentenfeestjes, activiteiten en volgende week gaan we eindelijk naar Lapland. De week erna hebben we een 'spring break' en vervolgens begint de tweede periode van het schooljaar alweer. De tijd vliegt werkelijk voorbij.

Ik zal bij deze een einde gaan maken aan mijn studieverhaal voor deze week. Ik waardeer het echt dat jullie iedere keer mijn blog lezen en de reacties daarbij zijn ook werkelijk fantastisch, ik hoop dat jullie hier ook van genieten :)

As the old Hawaiians always said: "Follow your heart, because that's right."

And we can go on again, to a new story in the always sunny and shining Oulu. Nevertheless, the sun does always shine in Otokylä. Otokylä is the name of the apartment complex where almost all exchange students living together. The sun is shining there always, because there is often a big party, there is a lot of fun and a there is lot of liquor in the game. Looping Louie and beer pong are the major activities which are almost daily on the programme. Exchange students are almost equal to the AA (anonymous alcoholics), only then just a little bit different. Finnish students think that exchange students are totally crazy, but that is normal. Short nights, (much) school and having a bad resistance features among them...

On to my daily stories, because I didn't say all of it. Last week, I said that the Tuesday evening was a different story. And of course, it was a different story. That day, I bought an overall. In Finland, it is the tradition in the student life that every student wears an overall, especially when they are going out and there are some student activities. In the evening, there was an international foodfestival, see also the pictures for this. There was an event organized, where students could represent their country by making a typical recipe. Almost all of the countries were represented: Japan, Germany, Spain, Hungary, Russia, just say it. And of course, the Dutch were also in the mood to make some Dutch food There were some other Dutch women, who made a typical stew (mashed potatoes, "stamppot") with meatballs and apple sauce (puree). That kind of food was not the most favorite for the international students. We made with a couple of Dutch students some chocolate cake (arretjescake) and sausage rolls (Brabantse worstenbroodjes). The chocolate cake was sold like warm cake. There was very good food at the other countries. After all the bellies were filled, it was time to party in our overall. Especially the color of the overall is very attractive and sexy;)

For the other days, I forget quite a few personal things and specific things who don't want to stay with me anymore, that's why I will tell you for now more general thing, but they are still funny. The Wednesday till Friday were some normal school days, whereby the student life woke up in the evenings and the nights and the nights were even longer. Even in the weekend this rhythm went on and on Sunday, it was time to learn and finish a project, because Monday I have had my first exam: Finnish survival course. Everyone was afraid of this test, but actually the test went very smooth to everyone. The level here on this school is not that high, so the tests and classes are pretty easy to do. However, I enjoy the life here in Oulu. It is incredibly beautiful to do this. Actually, I don't miss the other activities in The Netherlands, such as carnaval or other parties. I follow most of the stories by Whatsapp or Facebook, so it actually doesn't matter. 

For the next few days, it will also be fun. Students parties, activities and for next week, we finally go to Lapland! The next couple of weeks, we have a ' spring break' and then the second period of the school year will already start. The time is going to fast.
