Pirates, Stockholm and the Northern Lights!

Arrrrrr, hello you all. Nice that you want to read a story of my student life in Oulu again, because there happened a lot last week, so be prepared to read a great story!

Van de week was ik door mijn Twitter-tijdlijn aan het scrollen en ik kwam een mooie 'quote' van Loesje tegen die ik deze week niet aan me voorbij laat gaan. Voor deze week dus geen Tito, maar Loesje. De zin luidt: "Wat doen we met de concurrentiestrijd als blijkt dat we allemaal uniek zijn". Deze zin spreekt me aan, want dit doet me denken aan personal branding op school, waarbij je jezelf mag profileren om je uniek te maken tegenover je studiegenoten! En in business termen is dit wel grappig :)

Back to normal life, waar we vrolijk terug in de tijd gaan! Het was afgelopen week schitterend weer hier in Oulu. De zon scheen volop, de sneeuw is aan het smelten en de lucht was bijna iedere dag hemelsblauw zoals ook op de foto's te zien is. Het was dus genieten geblazen voor ons. Bovendien had het laatstgenoemde voordeel nog een extra voor ons in petto afgelopen nacht...

Voordat we op zondag naar Stockholm gingen, stond de week in het teken van school, maar ook van feesten. Er was van woensdag tot en met vrijdag iedere dag een feest in een club "Tivoli", waarbij er iedere avond nuchter gefeest kon worden! Gezellig was het zeker, maar de ochtenden erna zijn altijd zwaarder wanneer je om 08:15 op school moet zijn. Maar het studentenleven is zwaar, alhoewel ik het op dit moment erg druk heb met school. Maar mijn motivatie om deze blog te schrijven is iedere week weer uiterst hoog, zeker nu ik weet dat mijn hele familie en al mijn vrienden, studiegenoten en anderen mijn blog lezen. Ik wordt iedere keer op Twitter gevolgd door blogreizigers en organisaties. Het is wel grappig om te zien. 

De zaterdag was het tijd voor sport en Skype, dat was ongeveer het hoofdprogramma van de dag! Het is altijd fijn om familie weer even te zien en bij te praten wat er allemaal gebeurd hier, maar het is ook fijn om te horen wat er allemaal gebeurd in het altijd gezellige Maasbree! Ik zie iedere week ook dat mijn voetbalteam me mist en dat de koning was gearriveerd bij de Fabriek in Maasbree. Daar mocht mijn opa hem begroeten en een cadeau geven, heel leuk! Opa, die overigens ook mijn blog mag lezen, dat vind ik nou toch eens gaaf! :)

Op zondagmorgen, om 05:20, was het tijd om met de bus naar Helsinki te gaan, om vervolgens naar Stockholm te gaan met een cruise. De bustrip naar Helsinki was al een genot op zich. Een prachtige natuur in Finland, waar langzaam de natuur verdween in een prachtig, groot landschap. Ja, het geluk was aan onze zijde dit weekend. Arriverend in Helsinki zagen we de schepen liggen in de haven, wat zijn dat grote schepen. Heerlijk gewoon. Samen met 1199 andere studenten vanuit Finland vertrokken we richting Stockholm. Wij waren bij aankomst al in de piratenstemming met liedjes zingen, verkleedpartijtjes aan het doen en helemaal enthousiast. Het schip was echt hemelsgroot, heerlijk om zoiets te zien. Werkelijk alles was aan boord, zoiets vind ik nou geweldig. In een 4-persoons cabine mochten we onze kamer delen met een prachtig, grote badkamer. Nee, het was knus en gezellig. Vanaf toen kon het feest beginnen op de boot. Gedurende de nacht was het tijd voor shows, onbeperkt dineren en drinken, feesten, genieten van de piano en lang opblijven! Het was werkelijk fantastisch om een keer mee te maken, het schipleven was net als een marinier, beter gezegd een piraat. De volgende ochtend was het weer op tijd wakker worden, omdat we arriveerden in Stockholm.

Voor degene die niet weten waar Stockholm ligt, Zweden mensen. Stockholm is werkelijk een geweldige stad. We hadden prachtig weer die dag en dat resulteerde in een prachtig Stockholm. De architectuur in de stad is mooi om te zien, het is een erg culturele stad en zeker waard om een keer een bezoek te brengen. We hadden er een aantal uren doorgebracht, waarbij we de 'Skyline' van Stockholm hadden gezien, rond hebben gelopen, de stad hebben ontdekt en wat zijn gaan drinken. Vervolgens was het weer tijd om terug te gaan naar de boot, voordat hij weer vertrok voor de avond. De avond, die wederom hetzelfde begon als de dag ervoor, alleen nu op de weg terug naar Helsinki. Heerlijk dinertje, drank en feest waren grote woorden die dagen. Maar wat een onvergetelijke ervaring wederom. 

De dag erna, toen we in de ochtend arriveerde in Helsinki, was het weer tijd om de lange bustrip terug te nemen naar Oulu. Zonder dat we mensen achter hadden gelaten (...), was het een fantastische ervaring. In de avond arriveerde we in Oulu. Toen we bijna terug bij ons studenten 'hotelletje' waren, zei iemand een prachtige opmerking, de opmerking van zijn leven...

Het Noorderlicht! Ja, het was de avond die ik nooit meer vergeten zal. Het Noorderlicht was in de nacht gearriveerd in Oulu (zelfs in Terschelling) en wow, wat is dat schitterend om te zien. Op de foto's zijn een aantal beelden te zien, maar het is niet zo'n ervaring als dat het werkelijk is. We waren naar het strand gegaan om de beste beelden te hebben, net HD-televisie, maar dan levensecht. Ik had het licht wel eens eerder gezien, maar niet zoals dit. Het was overal, het was heerlijk helder en het was genieten geblazen. Hiervoor ga je naar Finland, dit zijn de momenten waarop je realiseert: De natuur kan schitterend zijn. Om nooit te vergeten...

Vervolgens was het tijd om te slapen en de volgende dag, de woensdag, was het weer tijd om vroeg naar school te gaan. Vandaag was het nog tijd om alles wederom bij te werken, te skypen met Niels die in Indonesië zit en daarna was het sauna tijd. En zo ben ik beland achter mijn laptop, waarbij ik het nog druk ga krijgen komende dagen...

Zaterdag gaan we nog skieën, maar komende dagen is het nog even tijd voor school, want er is nog veel te doen. Ohja, vanavond hadden we ook nog eens gepresenteerd/gediscussieerd/gepraat/gelachen voor een groep toekomstige tutor studenten. We moesten vertellen over onze ervaringen met tutor studenten, studenten die ons begeleiden hier in Finland. Of in ieder geval, die op papier een tutor student zijn. Want voor de meesten hier hebben ze weinig toegevoegde waarde. Maar het was leuk om te vertellen :)

Voor nu ga ik slapen, genieten en morgenvroeg weer hard werken aan school. Het is geweldig hier en ik vind het fantastisch om dit met jullie allemaal te mogen delen. Ik zeg: moi moi en tot volgende week bij mijn volgende Erasmus avontuur (of eerder).

This week, I was scrolling on my Twitter timeline and I came across a nice 'quote' of Loesje, which I have to share with you. So, for this week there is no Tito for you, but a nice quote of Loesje. The quote is like: "What do we have to do with competition if turns out that we are all unique". This sentence appeals to me, because it reminds me of personal branding at school, where you have to  have a unique profile compared with you fellow students. And also in business terms, this quote is very funny :) 

Back to normal life, where we happily go back in time! It was a beautifully weather last week here in Oulu. The Sun was shining in full, the snow is melting and the air was almost every day clearly blue, you can also see it on the pictures. It was enjoyable for us those days. In addition, the clearly sky had also for us an additional advantage last night...

Before we went to Stockholm on Sunday, the week marked by school, but also by events. There was from Wednesday till Friday a party in club, called "Tivoli", in which there was a sober party every night! Cozy for sure, but the mornings afterwards where heavier when I had to wake up at 08:15 am. But everyone knows that the student life is really heavy, even though I have it very busy with school. But my motivation writing this blog every week is extremely high, especially now I know that my whole family, friend, fellow students and other people read my blog. Each time that I am on Twitter, I have new followers of travelers and travel organisations. It is kind of funny to see.

At the Saturday was it time for sports and Skype, those were mainly the main program of the day. It is always nice to see my family again for a moment and talk about all the things that happened in the week, but is also nice to hear the stories from Maasbree! My football team is also missing me and the King arrived last week in a beautiful place of Maasbree, called "De Fabriek". My grandfather was allowd to meet and greet with the King and may give him a present. Grandpa, which is also allowed to read my blog at the age of 99, very awesome! :)

On Sunday morning, at the time of 05:20 pm, it was time to go by bus to Helsinki and then to Stockholm by our amazing cruise. The bus trip to Helsinki was already a pleasure for itself. A beautiful nature in Finland, where the the nature and snow beautifully disappeared in a large and beautiful landscape. Yes, we were lucky this week. When we arrived at the harbor of Helsinki, we saw the beautiful large ships. Just so awesome. Together with 1199 other fellow students from Finland, it was time to leave to Stockholm. We were in the bus trip already in the mood of singing pirate songs, dressing like a pirate and were so enthusiastic. The ship was so enormous, it was unbelievable. Absolutely everything was on board, I think that is really great. We slept those nights in a 4-person cabin, or in the corridor, but our room had a really big and nice bathroom. No, it was not that big. But after that, it was time to behave like a pirate. During the evening and night is was time for shows, unlimited drinking and eating, events, enjoying the piano and stay awake for a long time! It was really great to do it once, just like a marine. The next morning was it time to wake up early, because we arrived in Stockholm.

For those who don't know where Stockholm is, Sweden people. Stockholm is truly an amazing city. We were lucky with the weather last weekend, which resulted in a even more beautiful Stockholm. The architecture of the city is really beautiful, it's a very cultural city and it's definitely worth to visit Stockholm once. We spent a couple of hours in Stockholm, where we saw the skyline of Stockholm, walked around, discovered the city and went for a drink. Then was it time to go back to the boat, before the boat went back to Helsinki. In the evening, which began the same as the day before, was the start of our way to Helsinki. I had again a delicious dinner, and drinking and partying were the biggest words of that night. However, the trip was really an unforgettable experience again!

The day after, when we arrived in the morning in Helsinki, it was time to take the long bus trip back to Oulu. Without leaving people behind (...), it was a fantastic experience. In the evening we arrived in Oulu. When we were almost back in our students 'hotel', someone said a wonderful comment, the comment of his life...

The Northern Lights! Yes, it was the night that I will never forget. The Northern Lights was arrived in Oulu (even in Terschelling) and wow, what was that beautiful to look at. At the pictures you can see some Northern Lights, but those are not so good as the real experience in real life. We went to the beach of Oulu and really that was awesome. It was just like HD-television, but then in real life. I saw the Northern Lights a while ago, but not like this. It was everywhere, it was clearly bright and I enjoyed it so well. This is why people go to Finland, to experience the nature like this and then you realize: the nature can be so brilliant. I will never forget this...

For then, it was time to sleep and the next day, the Wednesday, it was time to go early to school. Today, it was time to update everything once again, had a Skype conversation with Niels, who is in Indonesia and it was sauna time. And so I ended up behind my laptop, whereby I am gonna really busy upcoming days...

Saturday, it is tome to go skiing, but for the next few days I still have to do a lot for school. Oh yeah, we also presented/discussed/talked/laughed for a group of upcoming tutor students. We had to talk about our experiences with tutor students, students who guide us here in Finland. Or at least, on paper tutor students. Because for most of us they have just a little added value. But it was nice to talk for them :)

For now am I going to sleep, enjoy and work hard again tomorrow morning at school. For me is this great to share my blog with all of you and it's fantastic to hear the comments. For now I say: moi moi and until next week to my next Erasmus adventure (or earlier).
